Octopath Traveler 0 is a standalone prequel to the original Octopath Traveler, launching on December 4, 2025 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. For the first time in the series, players can create and customize their own protagonist to embark on a quest of restoration and retribution after their hometown of Wishvale is burned to the ground by invaders. The narrative builds on the realm of Orsterra and ties into mobile title Champions of the Continent while introducing new story content centered on community rebuilding.
Gameplay retains hallmark HD-2D visuals, the Path Actions system for varied NPC interactions, and the Break & Boost turn-based battle mechanics, while adding town-building elements that require gathering materials such as lumber, stone, and cloth to place and upgrade structures on a grid in Wishvale. The title also features side activities like fishing and foraging, new single-player challenge modes, and multiple purchase options, including a Digital Deluxe Edition with a digital art book and in-game bonuses alongside standard physical and digital editions.
