Instagram is Beta Testing a 'Nudity Protection' Feature for DMs

Instagram, the Meta-owned photo-focused social media platform, announced that it is currently beta testing a new feature it calls 'Nudity Protection.' The Nudity Protection feature is essentially an AI-powered automatic filter for unsolicited photos shared in direct messages. More specifically, the feature will identify and automatically flag nudity sent to strangers on the platform.

The feature will then allow the receiver to view the message like normal, or delete the message without opening it. This is an excellent feature for user protections and sensitive content policing that does not intrude on the privacy of users on the platform. Instagram is aware that countless women are faced with unsolicited nude photos of users on the platform, leading to the creation and active-testing phase of the Nudity Protection feature.
