The Node Modular Webcam Lets You Physically Remove Camera and Mic Modules
References: yankodesign
The NODE modular webcam system is a conceptual external webcam designed by Bhavesh Sharma that uses detachable modules to control privacy through physical removal. The system consists of a clean, minimal camera module that attaches magnetically to a shared backplate with pogo-pin contacts. Additional modules such as a microphone or optional small display can be snapped onto the same backplate. When a module is detached from the backplate, it is completely disconnected from power and data, ensuring it cannot capture video or audio when removed. The modules and backplate connect through a single USB-C cable to a host device.
The optional display module is designed to show essential status information including camera and microphone status, upcoming meetings, weather, and select notifications without requiring interaction with other devices. The system uses a restrained rectangular geometry with smooth matte surfaces and is offered in black with color options for module accents. The magnetic attachment allows modules to be repositioned or removed with ease as part of workspace setup.
