Hybrid Game Console Sequels

Nintendo is Sending Out Developer Kits for the Switch 2

Nintendo is officially sending out developer kits to game studios in advance of the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 home console. This is the follow-up to the best-selling Nintendo Switch, meaning it will likely also feature a hybrid design whereby it can be used portably or 'Docked' for additional power when connected to a wall outlet and TV.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be significantly more powerful than the first, with estimates calling it equal in power to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Additionally, according to early reports from insiders, the Switch 2 will be backwards-compatible with Nintendo Switch games, meaning users invested in the ecosystem will not need to repurchase their favorite game titles. Nintendo stated that it is aiming for a 2024 release for the console, which lines up with game developers getting the kit a year in advance to have a library of games available at launch.
