Magnetic Mine-Detection Systems

This System Uses Magnetic Resonance to Detect Buried Explosives

A group of scientists over at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Australia have developed a high-tech new mine-detection system that aims to take into account the molecular signature given off my landmine explosives in order to detect them with greater accuracy and precision.

This mine-detection system makes use of magnetic resonance technology that takes into account the fact that many landmines don't contain metal, and therefore can't necessarily be detected with use of metal detectors.

This mine-detection system makes use of a transceiver that can be placed on the ground, and delivers radio waves into the soul to monitor compounds found in explosives. If such compounds are detected, the device alerts the user to the potential presence of a mine.

This high-tech mine-detection system is set to be distributed to the non-profit HALO Trust ahead of wider manufacturing.

Molecular Mine Detection
The use of molecular signatures through magnetic resonance technology is disrupting mine-detection systems and increasing accuracy.
Non-metal Mine Detection
The development of mine-detection systems that do not rely on metal detectors is a trend that can bring more detection possibilities.
Ground-based Transceivers
The development of ground-based transceivers for mine-detection can improve safety and reliability.

Who This Affects Most

Defense and Military
Military forces around the world can benefit from this breakthrough technology and can bring a disruptive and more effective method to the detection of dangerous explosives.
Humanitarian & Non-profit
Organizations like HALO Trust can leverage this technology to maximize their efforts to identify and remove mines in dangerous conflict-prone areas.
Environmental Monitoring
The magnetic resonance technology used for landmine detection can also be used to analyze soil contamination and can bring a new approach to environmental monitoring.
