Yesterday was the day technology took a new turn into a futuristic venture, making the Microsoft Speech Translator a breathtaking advancement in modern society. Chief Research Officer Rick Rashid demonstrated Microsoft's newest technological advancement to a group of unsuspecting Chinese-speaking students.

The demonstration begins with Rick Rashid speaking in English to the audience. As he speaks in English, the words coming from his mouth are instantly translated into Chinese text. Rick Rashid takes this venture one step further by speaking in English next -- the Microsoft Speech Translator then takes those words and convert it into Chinese speech, duplicating the pitch and noise levels in his voice. Essentially, this product will be the computer version of a human linguistics translator. Skip to 6:20 minutes in the film to watch the demonstration.
