Danish architect Sigurd Larsen takes on the refurbishing project where he turns the Michelberger Farm into a wing of guest rooms for the Michelberger Hotel. This is located in Spreewalf, Germany and it retains a 19th-century design theme to celebrate the roots of the area. Michelberger took over the site in 2018 and has harnessed a holistic ecosystem that contributes to the brand's hotel and provides a space for guests to relax and dine.
Larsen explains to Dezeen, "The farm, as it was taken over by the Michelberger team a few year ago, consisted of four wings around an inner court, with all the buildings finished in red bricks. The three other buildings were made in red bricks in the 19th century, all with slightly different red tiles on the pitched roofs. We decided to make a contemporary translation of this building typology leaving the ground floor transparent towards both the inner court and open green fields."
