Superstar soccer player Lionel Messi has teamed up with digital design firm BossLogic and digital marketplace Ethernity to launch his own collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) called the ‘Messiverse.’
These digital artworks, which highlight key moments and achievements from Messi’s career, will only be available to purchase with cryptocurrency through the Ethernity site. Though NFTs are typically associated with the world of digital art, many major sports stars and even entire leagues (e.g. the NBA) have embraced their potential. In fact, Messi joins sports legends such as Muhham Ali, Pele, and Alex Ovechkin, who have already released NFTs on Ethernity.
"Art is also evolving, and digital art (NFT) is another way to connect with the fans,” said Messi, whose new collection of NFTs resembles a new kind of digital trading card.
