One way former Editorial Intern Erin Fox uncovers trends like her favorite Gucci men's fashion films is by scouring all of the best fashion blogs. Other then having a penchant for fashion, she also gives viewers a glimpse inside her world. Though her childhood aspirations to be a Much Music VJ never panned out, she still continues to lead her life to the fullest, which includes moving to Switzerland for a year.
How do you define cool?
I define cool as this gut feeling you have inside. Say you are walking down the street and you see someone wearing these really cool rain boots. It's that gut feeling you have, I think that's what defines cool and not so much what everyone else has.
What is your favorite trend and why?
My favorite trend is men's fashion films. Essentially this is the Prada men's Fall 2012 collection. There's this model here who is stranded on this island wearing the men's collection. He doesn't know what to do and is all alone. The last tag says "A wise man will make more opportunities then he finds." I like the video because it really resembles a french new wave film and I love that dark, deep destruction that they are going through that Prada is trying to connect to the consumers.
What is your secret to uncovering the best trends?
My secret to uncovering the best trends is basically keeping up to date with what's current. Following blogs since they are huge right now, especially in fashion. I keep up with Man Repeller, the Blondsalad, all those girls and follow who their following. It's just a chain.
What is your favorite part about working at Trend Hunter?
My favorite thing about working at Trend Hunter is definitely the family vibe. My first day working here I felt like I knew these people for years. That's definitely my favorite part. I also love being on the Internet all day and learning what's current and what's new because it changes all the time. Every day there is something new to talk about.
How do you reset to be creative?
The way I do that is I listen to country music and i'll sing along. So i'll be the one sitting at my desk bobbing along, mouthing country music and being told to stop.
What's your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment is definitely graduating high school. In that respect, I went to Neufchatel Junior College so I had to go to Switzerland for a year. Basically I packed up my life in Oakville and just went abroad and met a whole bunch of new people. I think that is a really big accomplishment, just to leave what you know and do something new.
What did you want to be when you were little?
When I was little I remember specifically in my grade eight yearbook I wanted to be a Much Music VJ. I was obsessed with Much Music. But it doesn't look like that's going to happen anymore.
What advice would you give to the business world?
My advice to the business world would definitely be to hop on the social media train. That is the first thing I learnt here at Trend Hunter. If you don't use Facebook, Twitter, or Google+, your business isn't going anywhere. That is definitely what I recommend, to hop on that.
Anything you'd like to add about Trend Hunter?
