Although only in its prototype phase, the Mamelodi Pod could help to revolutionize how people live in countries like South Africa.
Design studio Architecture For A Change wanted to create an abode that allowed those who lived in it basic human luxurious. These luxuries include a bathroom, a bed and access to water. This pod has four bunk beds and an exterior toilet. The bathroom has a French drain, which means it does not need to be connected to a sewer. Also, the pod comes equipped with a parabolic solar cooker. Most importantly, the pod comes with a 1,000 liter container that will hold water. Because it is raised off the ground and in a particular container, the water will continue to be clean.
The Mamelodi Pod could be a revolutionary home. The fact that it can offer a family a bed to sleep in, a bathroom and clean drinking water is enough to change the lives of those living in it.
