Lightship has announced the Lightship L1, an aerodynamic, battery-powered, purpose-built, and all-electric travel trailer. The Lightship L1 was also a finalist in the 2023 SXSW Innovation Awards design category. Lightship co-founder Toby Kraus spoke about the launch, saying: "With 90% of the market comprising of towable RVs, we began by creating an all-electric travel trailer that is unlike any RV available today, and that is just the beginning."
The travel trailer has a self-propulsion system allowing near-zero range or mile-per-gallon efficiency loss. It also has a hyper-efficient design that is three times more aerodynamic than a standard travel trailer, which helps a 300-mile range. The battery system in this RV can provide up to a whole week of off-grid power without requiring a charging system. However, it can also rely on solar power. The travel trailer is available for $125,000, and a prototype will be showcased at SXSW in Austin from March 11 to March 13.
