Nature-Inspired Hilltop Residences

Ignacio Urquiza and Ana Paula de Alba Design Las Rocas

Mexican architect Ignacio Urquiza works with interior designer Ana Paula de Alba on the Las Rocas development. It is a complex of four homes nestled at the top of a rocky hilltop at Valle de Bravo. It is an area where endemic vegetation and outcrops are protected.

The firms analyzed the site extensively to find where to position the homes so that they would have a minimal impact on the natural surroundings. What resulted with a slightly modular design. The team explained the design notion, "The idea was to create a dynamic system, generating different configurations to optimise compositions for each location. As a result, the four houses use the same modules and components but with unique layouts depending on their respective characteristics."
