Jose Herrera is a Madrid-based fashion photographer who blurs the line between Magazine editorials and hard-hitting artistic photography. One need only look through his recent series for Vestal Magazine to realize this.

The series concentrates on a single model. In many of the shots, she has been styled and is posed in such a way so as to subdue her feminine features in favor of more boyish looks. Yet the point of the series is less about gender roles and more about the model in particular and the emotion she conveys.

She conjures hard and stoic expressions that seem to pierce right through the viewer. Technically, this Jose Herrera series is fashion photography, but outfits and clothing are clearly not the focus. Instead, the photographer and model focus on expressions, filling each frame with tension and intrigue.
