Long Lost Luxury Liquors

The 1957 Bowmore Islay Single Malt Whiskey Fetches $160,000

The first bottle ever produced of the rare Islay Single Malt Whiskey called Bowmore Scotch is worth $160,000 after it recently sold for that price at auction.

They say an item is worth as much as someone will pay for it, which may explain how a bottle of scotch could be worth so much. Then again, it is a bottle of Islay Single Malt made in 1957. In comparison, a 12-year-old Bowmore Islay at the LCBO in Ontario, Canada, costs $51.50.

But what makes this bottle of Islay Single Malt special isn’t only its age. The bottle itself is an extraordinary piece of packaging that reflects attention to detail and complete luxury.

This Bowmore Scotch failed to sell at two previous auctions.
