Industrial Belt Drive Conversions

Gates Launches Poly Chain Carbon ONE as a Chain Alternative

Gates expanded chain-drive conversion options with ‘Poly Chain Carbon ONE,’ a synchronous belt for OEMs and plant operators that narrows the upfront cost gap with roller-chain drives and aims for up to 80% lower ownership costs over time. It is built to run without lubrication or retensioning, reducing service work.

Poly Chain Carbon ONE supports layouts that are up to 15% narrower than earlier Poly Chain designs, giving equipment makers more room inside compact machines. It suits packaging and processing lines and is available first to North American channel partners, with global expansion through 2027.

Gates shows how North American channel availability first can turn chain-to-belt upgrades into a nearer-term sourcing option for builders already working with Poly Chain sprockets, while a belt that avoids lubrication and retensioning broadens the retrofit case in food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants, where service stops eat into output.

Lubrication-free Powertrains
Maintenance-light belt systems are redefining drivetrain economics by reducing downtime, contamination risk and recurring service costs in production environments.
Compact Drive Redesigns
Narrower synchronous belt layouts create new potential for denser machine architectures, smaller equipment footprints and upgraded packaging or processing line designs.
Chain-to-belt Retrofits
Cost-competitive belt conversions are expanding the retrofit market by making long-term ownership savings more accessible to plants still relying on roller-chain drives.

Sectors Adopting This

Industrial Equipment
OEMs gain design flexibility from narrower, lower-maintenance drive components that support more compact machinery and differentiated equipment platforms.
Food and Beverage
Cleaner belt-drive alternatives align with production settings where reduced lubrication, fewer stoppages and improved sanitation can influence operational performance.
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
Low-service synchronous drives fit regulated facilities where minimizing maintenance interventions and contamination pathways can improve line reliability.
