5 Indian Traditions Being Embraced by Celebs

— December 15, 2008 — Fashion
Guess what’s making waves in Hollywood celebrity circles? India! And no, it is not just one Indian thing that Hollywood celebrities are digging right now. The top 5 Indian-culture inspired trends in Hollywood right now are:

#1 The Sari - The Sari is nine yards of fabric (silk, cotton, chiffon, Georgette) that can be worn in different styles and is a part of Indian tradition. We have been seeing it elegantly wrapped around the svelte bodies of the most stylish celebrities in Hollywood. Alyssa Milano, Nicole Scherzinger (Pussy Cat Dolls) and even Madonna have been seen at Hollywood events, clad in nine yards of pure sensuality and style!

#2 Indian Jewelery - Be it antique ‘kundan’ pieces from Rajasthan or an Indian designer’s latest creations, Indian jewelery is something Hollywood divas are sure to snag right now! While Madonna was recently photographed sporting a bindi and bangles, the gorgeous Maria Menunos dazzled the Emmy’s last year wearing a necklace and earrings by Amrapali, Indian jewelery designers. Amrapali fans include Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry.

#3 Mehendi or Henna: This Indian form of body art uses natural dye and the reasons A-listers swear by it are because it looks ultra cool, it is painless, and it’s not permanent (so if you change your mind about it, you go get rid of it.) We have seen it adorn the bodies of Katharine McPhee, Madonna and Gwen Stefani to name a few.

#4 Curry: Hot and Spicy Indian curry is what leaves the taste buds of Hollywood icons like Keanu Reeves, tingling for more! Delicious in both its vegetarian and non-vegetarian avatars, Indian curry is something Hollwood is drooling over right now.

#5 Yoga: Yoga was practiced by spiritual gurus in India since ancient times and it is now the latest fitness fad in Hollywood celebrity circles. Yoga is now getting increasingly popular in Hollywood and its fans include Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston. (Yes it might be the secret behind those well toned heavenly bodies on the red carpet!)
