'In Others' Words' is a photo series which depicts people with words scrawled all over their naked bodies. The series is the work of Brooklyn-based photographer Lauren Renner.
The bodies of the nude subjects are covered with labels -- both flattering and negative -- that others have used to describe them. The words are scrawled on their bodies by the other subjects, who are total strangers. Renner asked the subjects to write the words on each other's bodies to make the process an exercise in understanding vulnerability, knowing oneself and transcending labels. The subjects write on each other to simulate the act of labeling people.
This way, the subjects are not only physically vulnerable because of their nudity, but are also emotionally vulnerable as they permit total strangers to write on them.
In Others' Words is on display at the JANGEORGe Gallery in East Hampton, New York till the end of August 2014.
