Underwater Bicycle Parks

VenhoevenCS Architecture + Urbanism Completes the IJboulevard

Dutch design studio VenhoevenCS Architecture + Urbanism completes the IJboulevard design in Amsterdam. It is an underwater bicycle park that is made for Amsterdam Central Station in the Netherlands. It is able to hold up to 4,000 bicycles and is supported by a pedestrian boulevard above ground -- this overlooks the River IJ, which is referenced in its namesake.

This project was commissioned by the Municipality of Amsterdam with the goal of decluttering the public space by the bustling station and offering a safer navigation from water traffic. The studio explains that "IJBoulevard delivers new public space, bringing bicycles underground to free up space at street level whilst providing a new living room for the city."
