Running footwear brand Hoka One One has unveiled its newest high-tech trail runner, the Hoka Tecton X. Targeted towards serious runners, the new sneaker features parallel carbon fiber plates designed to deliver propulsive benefits while maintaining a runner's agility on uneven trails.
Although many major brands have added carbon fiber plates to their running shoes, Hoka addresses a common problem associated with the speed-improving technology. The rigidity of a typical carbon plate often poses a challenge for runners who need to switch terrains as it restricts their mobility. However, Hoka's new design allows the plates to run up and down the length of the shoes independently of each other, letting runners interact dynamically with varied terrain.
"Hoka developed the dual plate design in the Tecton X, hereby maintaining the propulsive benefits of a carbon plate without compromising the dynamic lateral movements needed to trail run effectively and safely," explains Gretchen Weimer, Hoka vice president of product.
