High-Powered Thunderbolt eGPU Enclosures

Sonnet Launches Its Breakaway Box 850 T5 Enclosure

Sonnet’s Breakaway Box 850 T5 is a Thunderbolt 5 external GPU enclosure with an integrated 850-watt power supply. It supports triple-slot Nvidia RTX 30, 40 and 50 series cards and AMD Radeon RX 6000, 7000 and 9000 series models, letting compatible laptops and mini PCs use desktop graphics cards.

The enclosure provides up to 100 watts of Power Delivery for a connected computer. Expansion includes a second Thunderbolt 5 port, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports and 5-gigabit Ethernet. It also works with Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 systems, although it does not include OCuLink connectivity or an M.2 storage slot.

The power supply supports high-draw cards such as the RTX 5080, while the additional ports consolidate workstation connections. The product reflects growing interest in modular graphics for compact computers. At $599.99, Sonnet positions the enclosure as a premium all-in-one alternative to lower-priced models that require a separate power supply.
