Stir Stick Installations

Art Gallery and Coffee Shop Collide in Have Sticks Will Travel Exhibit

It is as if an art gallery and coffee shop collided in order to give rise to the Have Sticks Will Travel exhibit. It is comprised of two impressive sculptures, each made out of materials found in, you guessed it, a coffee shop. The Grand Rapids Piece is made out of 70,000 coffee stir sticks, which have been woven in place and held by tension with a Herman Miller museum bench inclusion. This installation is reminiscent of Jonathan Brilliant's Berlin Piece. No wonder since it is created by the same artist.

The second piece in the Have Sticks Will Travel exhibit is titled Continuous Coffee Cup Sleeve Line. That is because it is actually made out of a continuous line of coffee cup sleeves: 2,500 to be exact.

Have Sticks Will Travel is currently showing at the Kendall College of Art and Design Gallery in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
