AZ Academy Opens a Paris Shop with a Kintsugi Workshop

AZ Academy is bringing its yearlong training program into retail with 'A Bunch of Designers,' a Paris space where emerging designers can debut and sell capsule pieces during Paris Fashion Week. Created by the academy's Alber Elbaz, the project opened in the Upper Marais as a retail space rather than a runway show, showroom, or prize.

Among the first six graduates, Liwen Liang makes clothing using traditional Chinese porcelain, while the shop's kintsugi workshop brings repair and craft to the forefront for visitors, rather than keeping them behind the scenes. That turns the stop into a more tactile introduction to new fashion names and gives the clothes a story people can grasp on the spot.

For shoppers, this means discovering independent fashion in a setting that also explains how it is made. Buying becomes part retail trip, part studio visit.
