Sony has announced the development of a game preservation team for its PlayStation network of consoles. This team will focus on remastering, rebuilding, and reviving games that have been lost to time, such as old PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 titles. This process would involve bringing these old video game titles to modern PlayStation systems, such as the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Sony recently announced the restructuring of its two subscription services, PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus. As part of this restructuring, the services have been essentially merged into one, tiered service. It is expected the game preservation team will be bringing old video game content to modern consoles as a part of this subscription service, as Sony has previously announced that PlayStation Plus will include hundreds of retro games.
