The ASDA football shirt exchange is a new initiative being run by the grocer to help fair weather soccer fans exchange their jersey depending on the outcome during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The scheme, cheekily entitled the Shirt Happens initiative, will include George shirts with England or Scotland branding that fans can pick up starting at £5. The used shirts can be swapped out for the other team in the event that they don't reach the finals during the match this summer. The retailer will donate returned shirts to charity, while the initiative as a whole responds to consumer concerns that football shirts are simply too expensive.
A spokesperson at ASDA spoke on the football shirt exchange saying, "Football shirts are a big part of tournament culture, but fans shouldn’t have to spend a fortune to feel part of it. At Asda, we’re focused on helping customers get more for their money, and our George shirts give fans a cheaper way to back their team this summer. With the shirt swap, we’re going one step further, giving fans the freedom to wear it, celebrate in it and still swap it for something they’ll get more wear out of if their team’s dream ends early.”
