Chipotle is exploring food-powered sonic branding with “From Ground to Sound,” an original track performed entirely with instruments constructed from ingredients used in its restaurants. Working with the London Vegetable Orchestra, the brand transformed corn, jalapeños, peppers, avocado pits, lettuce, and onions into playable instruments. Three months of testing were required because the produce had to reach the right ripeness and remained usable for less than a day. The final track was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and is available through Spotify and Apple Music.
The project gives Chipotle a distinctive audio asset directly connected to its emphasis on fresh ingredients. Using the song across select campaigns can create consistency between its food and advertising while giving audiences another way to recognize the brand. Extending the track onto streaming platforms also allows the campaign to exist beyond traditional advertising and reach listeners through entertainment channels.

Why This Trend Is Growing
- Ingredient-based Audio Branding
- Brands can translate core product materials into recognizable sound assets, creating sensory identities that feel more authentic and harder for competitors to replicate.
- Playable Food Experiences
- Culinary ingredients used as instruments highlight how perishability, craft, and experimentation can turn food into participatory entertainment content.
- Streaming-first Brand Assets
- Audio campaigns distributed through music platforms expand branded media beyond ads, positioning marketing as entertainment that audiences can revisit voluntarily.
Industries Being Reshaped
- Fast Casual Dining
- Restaurants can differentiate through multisensory brand systems that connect menu freshness with memorable experiences across physical and digital touchpoints.
- Music Production
- Studios and creators gain space for unconventional recording projects that merge material experimentation, brand storytelling, and platform-ready releases.
- Advertising and Marketing
- Agencies can develop campaigns where distinctive sensory assets become long-term brand cues rather than short-lived promotional executions.
