Distorted Furniture Street Art

Alex Chinneck Designs the Surrealism First Kiss at Last Light

Britsh artist Alex Chinneck has created the First Kiss at Last Light amongst other artworks. The unique street art transforms the traditional ideas of English lampposts and telephone booths with a new angle. The booth is altered with a twisted body and the post box has a dynamic new form as a public work of art in Bristol, England. The new project features three street furniture designs that are made for Assembly.

Chinneck speaks to Dezeen about the design, sharing "They are fairly significant objects with the bow design weighing 300 kilograms and the intertwining lamps standing four metres tall and weighing 250 kilograms. I wanted to create contemporary sculptures but in a style and materiality akin to the Victoriana of the neighbouring historic stone wall and cast iron railings of the harbour. That period of design and manufacturing has associations with solidity and rigidity, and the flowing forms of the lampposts subvert that with apparent fluidity."
