Created by a San Francisco high school student named Arul Mathur, the Fire Activated Canister Extinguisher is a wall-mounted gadget that is fitted with an air valve, a pressure gauge and a sprinkler.
What's great about this particular fire suppression device is that it doesn't need to be used in conjunction with electrical or water outlets in users' homes. Rather, it is equipped with a special bulb that bursts when it's exposed to heat from flames. This results in the pressurized fire retardant mix to spray up to five feet in all directions.
Available on Kickstarter for a pledge of $99, the Fire Activated Canister Extinguisher is an affordable alternative to expensive automatic sprinkler systems.
