Finolhu Villas is a luxury hotel development located in the Maldives, the island nation that's already filled to the brim with novel luxury hotels. But what's unique about this particular development is the fact that it is the Maldives' first fully solar-powered five star resort. The project consists of 52 solar-powered villas located on the exclusive Gasfinolhu island in the Indian ocean.
The Finolhu Villas project was designed by New York firm Yuji Yamazaki Architecture, and was completed earlier this year. Each villa on the development measures 168 square meters and is located right by the beach. The interior of each villa features a private swimming pool, mini-bar, lounge and patio.
The villas also features special operable windows and wooden shade screens, which ensure that guests won't really crave air-conditioning. Ultimately, this development proves that there is such a thing as sustainable luxury which can be made an important part of high-end tourism.
