Filfury Transforms Sneakers into Creature-Like Sculptures
Christopher Magsambol — September 10, 2015 — Art & Design
Filfury has made a career out of repurposing expensive sneakers into pieces of modern art. Most sneaker heads collect hundreds of pairs of shoes, often leaving it in the box or occasionally wearing them.
Filfury however, enacts his love for sneakers in a vasty different way -- transforming them into art. Filfury's sneaker obsession has lead him to various areas of art and design including graphic T-shirts, art installations and even advertising.
Filfury is heavily influenced by 90s hip-hop, sportswear and of course, sneaker culture. In conceptualizing his work, Filfury likes to challenge the norms of pop culture and alter it in creative ways. By taking popular models of sneakers and taking it apart, Filfury is creating something new that usually gets repurposed as graphic designs or sculptures.
His work still incorporates his affinity to sneakers, but re-imagines them in artistic and innovative ways.
