The National Science Foundation is looking at completely overhauling the Internet. It's proposing a complete transformation - in effect wiping the slate clean and starting fresh. Experts feel that this is the best approach for addressing the existing challenges of the current model. BBN Technologies is the agency charged with the task of spearheading this overhaul. They'll be using GENI (Global Environment for Network Innovations) as the basis for experimentation. They hope to address key issues including security and mobility - all without disrupting the existing framework.
