The Kenya Revenue Authority, a government body tasked with enforcing tax-related laws and regulations, is launching an innovative new smartphone app that is designed to make it easier than ever for the Kenyan public to check the authenticity of excise tax stamps situated on alcohol bottles in order to make sure that they have undergone production and distribution in a law-abiding manner.
All alcohol bottles in Kenya are supposed to be marked with excise tax stamps that feature unique encrypted codes that are capable of tracing back the items to their origins. Now, the public are being empowered to use the Stamp Checker app to scan stamps in order to identify illegally packaged items.
This app is a great example of government authorities using app technologies to work with the public to identify criminal activity.
