De Bethune DB28XS Sea Tourbillon Has a Compact Titanium Tourbillon

The De Bethune DB28XS Sea Tourbillon presents a reduced version of the brand’s tourbillon architecture within a slimmer 38.7mm titanium case. Polished surfaces contrast with the openworked dial, where a blued titanium bridge carries a random guilloché pattern that mimics ocean currents. The floating lug system extends from the case, allowing the watch to sit securely while adapting to wrist movement.

The manually wound calibre DB2009V7 operates with a five-day power reserve delivered through twin self-regulating barrels. A 30-second tourbillon is positioned at six o’clock, constructed from lightweight titanium components and rotating at high frequency. Structural elements of the movement remain exposed on the dial side, while hand-finished details and heat-blued components define the watch’s mechanical layout.

Miniaturized Tourbillon Engineering
Smaller high-precision tourbillon assemblies enable new compact luxury timepieces that challenge conventional movement size-to-performance ratios.
Biomimetic Aesthetic Design
Ocean-inspired guilloché and organic surface treatments open pathways for visually driven differentiation that blends nature patterns with haute horlogerie techniques.
Lightweight High-frequency Movements
The use of titanium and lightweight components for fast-rotating escapements suggests performance gains paired with durability improvements in mechanical watches.

Who This Affects Most

Luxury Watchmaking
High-end horology stands to be redefined by compact tourbillon architectures and exposed movement aesthetics that shift consumer expectations for mechanical sophistication.
Materials Science and Metallurgy
Advances in blued titanium and lightweight alloys create opportunities for novel component fabrication methods that balance strength, thermal properties, and finishing.
Wearable Ergonomics
Floating lug systems and slimmer cases indicate a move toward personalized fit technologies that integrate comfort with mechanical complexity in wrist-worn devices.
