The city of Shoalhaven is currently discussing whether or not to remove a brand new condom dress from display in one of its public buildings. The dress is meant to bring awareness to the issue of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). The rate of chlamydia increased in the past year in Shoalhaven by 75% in females and 61% in males. With these frightening numbers, it's no wonder that Shoalhaven's city council felt they had to do something.
Made of several thousand condoms and featuring both a fitted bodice and a flowing train, this condom wedding dress, or 'Connie' as the people of Shoalhaven have named it, stands as a warning to people who have considered forgoing protection. While some members of city council are now fighting to remove the dress, saying that it will harm the city's children, a hefty percentage of the town has taken Connie's message to heart, and believe that the dress will promote change throughout Shoalhaven.
A condom wedding dress is a drastic response to a crisis, but its message is crystal clear -- plus, it makes for a hilarious town monument.
