This System Adds Communications Capabilities to Bike Helmets

Aleck, a company that specializes in innovations pertaining to the outdoor technology space, has launched a high-tech wireless communications module that is designed to be able to add wireless communications capabilities to existing bicycle helmets.

The 'Punks' communications module comprises a pair of elements that are hooked up to the chin strap of the helmet near the ears of the wearer. These Bluetooth-enabled elements are used in conjunction with a companion smartphone app in order to allow users to listen to music, make and receive phone calls, and engage in communications with other 'Punks' users. The module also includes a special mic that helps curb wind noise, while algorithms are used to further help tune the sound to keep out external noise.

This unique bicycle helmet-compatible communications module is the subject of a crowdfunding campaign, with a pledge of $8 sufficient to reserve a pair.
