A collaborative initiative involving Amazon Web Services, Dentsu Creative, and ONCE has resulted in the development of a prototype application named ComicCast, which is designed to make comic books accessible to individuals who are blind or have significant visual impairments. IO DIGITAL X was also designated the implementation partner for this initiative.
The ComicCast application utilizes generative artificial intelligence to analyze the visual and textual components of a comic book page. It then generates a corresponding audio track that includes character dialogue, descriptive narration of the visual action, and sound effects. The system employs multiple AI models to handle different aspects of this process, including scene comprehension and voice synthesis.
The ComicCast prototype was demonstrated at a major pop culture event, where it was used to provide an auditory experience of a comic to attendees with visual disabilities.
