Fine cognac distiller Remy Martin and digital innovators Selinko have teamed up to develop the Remy Martin Club Connected Bottle, a bottle fitted with technology that allows for spirits to be authenticated and also warns when bottles have been opened.
The Remy Martin Club Connected Bottle uses Selinko's NFC (near-field communication) technology and features a tamper-proof NFC tag embedded into the bottle's sealing capsule. When a person gets their hands on a bottle of fine cognac, they can use an Android smartphone app and tap their phone on top of the bottle to access information about the authenticity of the contents.
Users can be warned if the bottle's seal has been broken, protecting them against fraud in both physical retail spaces as well as the online market.
