Maple Leaf's Chinese-Style Sausages Revive a Traditional Ethnic Recipe

In the hopes of targeting the Chinese-Canadian market, Maple Leaf developed a line of Chinese sausages in Pork, as well as Pork and Chicken flavors. Although maple bacon might be the sausage flavor that's most often associated with meat from Canada, multiculturalism is a huge influence on the flavors this country has to offer.

The Chinese-style sausages are based on a traditional Chinese meat called "lap cheong," which is made with Chinese shaoxing wine. Maple Leaf boasts that its sausages have a higher quality of meat than comparable products sold through ethnic stores. It's significant that Maple Leaf sees mainstream appeal for this style of traditional Asian sausages beyond the Chinese community.

The two types of Maple Leaf sausages were launched earlier this year to coincide with Chinese New Year festivities.
