OpenAI has announced the new ChatGPT group chats feature to enable users to connect with friends, family and colleagues within the artificial intelligence (AI) platform.
The feature will enable users to invite up to 20 people to get in on the chat, which will be positioned in a new sidebar section to allow everyone involved to easily access them. The feature leverages the power of the new GPT-5.1 model and will only see rate limits applied when ChatGPT responds. This will thus enable users to chat with one another and only engage with the chatbot when desired or required for a customized experience.
The ChatGPT group chats feature is being piloted by the brand in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and Taiwan for Free, Go, Plus and Pro plan users.
