Charles Simon's Handmade Bonaventure Reminds of a 19th Century Trunk

In the race to make a piece of luggage that's as lightweight as possible, many brands have created designs that look more or less the same, with similar features—but the handmade Bonaventure from Canada's Charles Simon luggage studio sets itself apart with a different kind of design entirely. In fact, the $29,850 carry-on roller bag weighs about 12 pounds, which is roughly 50% heavier than its cloth counterparts, as it boasts elegant wood components made from rescued Canadian log-drive timber.

The design of the luggage piece was created to remind of a 19th-century traveling trunk yet offer modern features such as retractable wheels, an automatic deploying handle for a comfortable carrying experience and an interior structure featuring the same level of engineering as used in racing cars and aerospace design.
