Jet Blue is teaming up with Yahoo and Blackberry to bring WiFi to airplanes next week when a plane called BetaBlue will fly from JFK to San Francisco offering passengers email access, and instant messaging. FCC regulations are very strict regarding this matter and there are still hurdles to be cleared.
Implications - The widespread adoption of wireless Internet and Web-enabled mobile devices has cultivated a dedicated market of tech consumers who aren't content to go offline -- even during a flight. Some carriers are offering Internet access during flights with a free or fee-based structure, but as our addiction to technology grows, this amenity will only continue to increase.
