Anatomy-inspired Fashion

Vertebrae Spine Necklace

Molly Epstein, a student from Temple University, designed this neat necklace, Vertebrae. As you can see, the necklace makes it look like you are wearing your spine.

This reminded of another anatomy-inspired fashion trend, the “X-ray” collection. The dress and necklace would look perfect together!

Implications - Anatomical apparel is an ironic way to remind consumers that through all of the material adornment, everyone has the same blood running through their veins and bones under their skin. The fashion industry has taken so well to this concept because it evokes deeper thought, is instantly edgy and macabre, and places a certain amount of focus on the natural shape of the human body.
