Sony has revealed its AI-Powered music capabilities. The company has undertaken research into machine learning that can track a kick-drum. The company indicates that this shows that AI-powered music is able to create "musically plausible" drum beats, based on other instruments that were used in a song.
To develop the music creating AI, Sony provided the system with 665 distinct songs across all types of music. All of the songs included in the project used rhythm instruments of some kind. This allowed the AI system to create new drum patterns, which were derived from the other aspects of the song. The system was able to adjust for different song tempos or changes in song duration.
