Particles for Humanity and Hexagon Nutrition are advancing heat-stable vitamin fortification with VIT A+, a vitamin A palmitate formulation developed to retain stability during storage and cooking. Following a manufacturing transfer from France to India, the companies have completed commercial-scale process validation, demonstrating that the formulation can be consistently produced while maintaining its intended product attributes. Each production batch can provide enough VIT A+ to fortify 600 million servings of foods such as flour, sugar and bouillon.
For the organizations, commercial-scale manufacturing creates a pathway to make stable vitamin A fortification more accessible in low- and middle-income countries where deficiency remains prevalent. Producing VIT A+ in India is also expected to lower manufacturing costs while positioning Hexagon Nutrition to supply large fortification programs. The scalable format could help governments, food producers and nutrition organizations incorporate vitamin A into widely consumed staple foods.

What's Driving This Trend
- Heat-stable Micronutrients
- Shelf- and cook-resistant nutrient formats create openings for fortified staples that preserve efficacy across real-world storage, transport and preparation conditions.
- Staple Food Fortification
- Embedding essential vitamins into high-consumption foods such as flour, sugar and bouillon expands the potential for population-scale nutrition delivery through everyday diets.
- Localized Nutrient Manufacturing
- Regional production hubs in cost-efficient markets can improve access, reliability and affordability for large public health fortification programs.
Who This Affects Most
- Food Ingredients
- Advanced encapsulation and stabilization technologies are reshaping ingredient portfolios for manufacturers serving fortified packaged and staple food categories.
- Public Health Nutrition
- Large-scale micronutrient interventions gain new reach when stable formulations align with government procurement, social impact programs and deficiency reduction goals.
- Nutraceutical Manufacturing
- Commercial validation of specialized vitamin formulations signals growth potential for producers capable of scaling quality-controlled functional nutrition inputs.
