Facebook has added new ad units to its platform which can inform a user when a movie is released. The new ad units were created in order to assist movie studios to promote different releases. Users will now be able to select an "interested" button on movie advertisements on the Facebook platform. If users select this button, they will receive a notification when the movie is released. Before the movie is released, users who opted in will be able to access a page that presents the different showtimes for the movie.
The new movie promotion system on the social media site may be the result of research. Facebook-commissioned research, conducted by Accenture, indicated that 58% of movie theater attendees were informed of movie releases from the Internet.
