Hip Hop-artist Vic Mensa joins forces with Michigan-based fashion label Wolverine on a custom '1000 Mile Combat' collection. The Chicago native artist works closely throughout the entire process of co-creating the boots, starting by hand-selecting the leathers used to create the footwear.
Vic Mensa states that “with Wolverine, I was able to pull my personal style into the collection and bring a lot of the punk aesthetic that I'm drawn to into the design of these shoes to create a boot-inspired sneaker.” The silhouette references the signature Wolverine 1000 Mile patterning and elevates the design with a thick sole unit and rugged Vibram outsoles. The collaborative effort ensures that the designs are lightweight, flexible, and comfortable, arriving in three height options of low, mid, and tall. There are also three colorways to select from as well -- an all-black 'Ink,' worn-in brown 'Burnout,' and metallic-accented matte black 'Anthracite.'
Overall, Vic Mensa incorporates his own gritty design language to a classic footwear silhouette, resulting in a heritage-honoring well-balanced design. Notably, a portion of the proceeds from every pair sold will be going towards Mensa's own charitable foundation, 'SaveMoneySaveLife,' which provides resources for youth organizations and underserved areas in Chicago.
