Delhi Metro Unveils QR Code-Based Paper Tickets for Metro Passengers

DMRC is officially launching QR code-based paper tickets for passengers on all its trains. This allows consumers to use convenient code-based tickets during their commute instead of the existing tokens and smart cards that are currently accepted. The company hopes to eventually phase out tokens and operate on a digital basis only. Each station will have two gates for entry and exit that accept the new QR code tickets.

"The concept of issuing tokens will be gradually phased out with the introduction of these more transparent and human intervention free and cashless mechanisms thereby facilitating more convenient, seamless, time saving and error fee travel for its passengers," Delhi Metro said.

The QR code tickets will debut at the end of May as a better alternative to the service's current payment options.
