Privacy-Focused Messenger Features

WhatsApp is Rolling Out a 'Chat Lock' Feature for all Users

Meta unveiled a new feature coming to its popular WhatsApp messaging service titled 'Chat Lock.' Chat Lock will allow users to store private chats in a separate folder that is password-protected. Each chat stored in this folder will be more difficult to access, and will come with a number of privacy-enhancing features.

One such feature is the removal of message previews for locked chats. Rather than the message notification showing the contact and a small portion of the message, the notification will merely say "1 new message," preventing unwanted information leaks if others are staring at the user's phone. One additional feature is the ability to set messages to disappear after a certain amount of time, which further contributes to privacy and security for sensitive conversations.
