The Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech has commenced the construction of a new battery factory in Šurany, Slovakia. The production facility is noted to be the first installation of its kind within the country.
The planned battery factory is designed for an initial output of 20 gigawatt-hours, with the start of manufacturing operations scheduled for 2027. The primary objective of this facility is to supply the European Union's automotive market with batteries for electric vehicles. Beyond its manufacturing role, the complex is also intended to function as a center for research and development, with plans for collaboration with local academic institutions. The project is projected to generate over a thousand new jobs and is presented as a significant contributor to the regional economy and the broader European transition to sustainable energy.
