It's hard to picture these days, but in the late 80s and early 90s, web searching was completely non-existent. If you told someone to Google something, they'd probably have no clue what you were talking.

Yahoo! was the first major company to get on the web searching bandwagon, but even they were predated in 1993 by AliWeb and JumpStation.
