Automaker Volkswagen is launching a campaign in the Netherlands called the VW Fanwagen, which gives participants the chance to win an astoundingly social media-connected car.
With the slogan, "Made by fans, built on likes," the VW Fanwagen campaign asks users to vote (via Facebook likes) on either the Volkswagen's old school Beetle or its T1 campervan. The company will then install social media features into the top-voted car, turning it into the VW Fanwagen, essentially a "Facebook page on wheels," as Popsop describes. Once the car is made, Volkswagen will put up a 'Claim' button on its Facebook page -- the first person to click this button wins the car.
Right now, the Beetle has only 6,000 likes while the T1 has 14,000. Whichever car receives 20,000 likes first will be the model that is constructed.
